Alaska Congressman Don Young Awarded the "Spirit of Enterprise" by U.S. Chamber of Commerce
Washington, D.C., Feb 11 -
Congressman Young demonstrates that economic growth is a top priority
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce today recognized Alaska Congressman Don Young with the “Spirit of Enterprise” award for his support of pro-business issues during 1998.
“The United States economy is at an all time high because of business development and innovation. Let’s remember who we are talking about when we are talking about the ‘Spirit of Enterprise.’ We are talking about the small entrepreneurs in Alaska, like those individuals who run the family logging operation in Southeast Alaska, and the fishermen that work throughout January in the Bering Sea to feed their families. Small businesses now account for 99.7% of the nation’s employers and employ 54% of the private workforce,” said Representative Don Young.
“Rep. Young has consistently voted to support American business, the engine of our remarkable economic prosperity,” said Thomas J. Donohue, President & CEO of the Chamber of Commerce. “Rep. Young compiled an excellent pro-business voting record and demonstrated that jobs and economic growth are top priorities.”
The Spirit of Enterprise Award is presented by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to members of Congress who voted in support of the Chamber’s position on legislation a minimum of 70 percent of the time during the previous session of Congress. Key votes for 1998 included issues such as cutting taxes, reducing excessive regulations, and legal reform.
