Delegation Announces Grants to Alaska Programs

The Alaska Congressional Delegation today announced federal agencies have awarded a series of funding grants and contracts to Alaska groups and communities. Congressman Don Young, Senator Ted Stevens and Senator Lisa Murkowski said grants and contracts totaling over $112 million were awarded.


Department of Transportation


National Scenic Byways Program has awarded the following grants to the State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities:




$25,000 for the continued implementation of the Glenn Highway’s Corridor Management Plan.  This funding will also be used to enhance the Glenn Highway Scenic Byway Association’s volunteer efforts.


$117,880 for the development of a comprehensive public relations program for the Glenn Highway Scenic Byway Public Relations Outreach Project.  This program will educate and inform byway travelers of current construction conditions along the Glenn Highway.


$112,520 for the "Interpreting Alaska’s Marine Highway Wildlife Story" Project, which helps byway travelers appreciate the area’s rich natural and scenic features.  The project focuses on wildlife and includes interpretive signs, a byway guide, and a video series.


$120,000 to establish a Corridor Management Plan/Partnership Board for the Northern Richardson Highway.  This effort will document the highway’s intrinsic values and make recommendations for maintaining and enhancing its value in the future.


$83,050 to redesign and print the Official State Highway and Byway Map.  The map is one of the principal official state publications for tourism and travel.  The new map will incorporate newly designed state and national scenic byways.

$43,029,957 contract to Davis Constructors & Engineers, Incorporated for construction of replacement family housing at Fort Richardson, Alaska.


$6,000,000 to Design Alaska of Fairbanks for architectural design and related projects throughout Alaska.
