A Statement from Congressman Don Young on Electing a New House Leadership
Washington, D.C.,
Feb 2, 2006 -
The United States House of Representatives voted at noon today to elect a new Majority Leader for their body. Former Majority Leader Tom Delay, of Texas, stepped down from the post on January 7, 2006 leaving the position vacant. The following statement was issued by Congressman Don Young regarding the election of a new leader:
"I am impressed by how well the vote was conducted, and by how democratically the process was run. Congressman Roy Blunt gave a very gracious and outstanding concession speech, and I think we are making great strides towards the future of this body. The position of Majority Leader is not an easy one, and keeping everyone in line will be a challenge, but I believe Congressman Boehner is up for it."
Also in the elections today, Congressman Adam Putnam was announced as the new Republican Policy Committee Chairman, and Congressman Roy Blunt will remain in his post as Majority Whip. Congressmen Boehner, Putnam, and Blunt will be officially announced in their new positions on Tuesday, February 7, 2006.
