CONGRESSMAN YOUNG COMMENTS ON THE PRESIDENTS BUDGET PLAN
Washington, D.C.,
Feb 6, 2006 -
Alaska Congressman Don Young today had this to say about the President’s Budget of the United States Government, Fiscal Year 2007:
"We just received the President’s budget today and it is quite extensive and exhaustive. According to the Constitution, the President has to submit a budget to Congress, and we have the authority to implement the budget. We are going to analyze it to see where we are headed as a nation. We will be looking at this budget very carefully to see where the President has made cuts. If we don’t believe that the cuts are warranted, we will try to reinstate and increase areas where needed, and some areas we will reduce according to the needs of this nation. As it relates to my Alaskan constituents, we will see what we can and cannot support.
I have served seven Presidents; a total of 34 budgets have been under my jurisdiction. It is our responsibility as legislators to make sure we do a comprehensive evaluation of the budget, and not just ‘rubber stamp’ it," said Congressman Young.
