The Washington internship program offers young Alaskans the opportunity to assist Congressman Young and his staff members in a variety of ways. Intern assignments could include researching legislative issues, monitoring committee hearings, answering telephones, performing clerical and press office duties, or delivering messages throughout the Capitol complex.
All interns must:
Be a current or former Alaska resident or have a parent who is an Alaska resident.
Have completed one full year of college (post high school graduation).
Be at least 18 years of age.
Submit complete application package prior to deadline.
A completed application package includes:
Completed application form
Copy of college transcript
Writing Samples
Letter(s) of recommendation
Acceptance to the program will be based on:
Demonstrated interest in the legislative process
Excellence in college coursework
Commitment to politics
Availability
Ability to receive college credit for internship
It is important to note that all internship opportunities with Congressman Young are unpaid. You are responsible for providing your own transportation to and from Washington, DC and all expenses incurred while interning including room and board. Daily transportation to and from Capitol Hill is subsidized.
Many schools award academic credit and you should check with your educational institution to determine if your internship experience is eligible for college credit.
