“America cannot afford to let our troops and their families suffer due to Washington’s inability to act responsibly,” said Rep. Young. “As the President’s own Secretary of Defense said, the mandatory defense cuts would cripple our military. Without this fix, we risk having the smallest military since before World War II, something that would have drastic implications as we try to deal with serious threats from North Korea and Iran.”
“If sequestration were to become a reality, Alaska would undoubtedly feel much of the pain. Look no further than the proposed move of the Eielson F-16 Fighter Squadron which was defended as a ‘cost savings’ move by the Air Force. The consequences of sequestration are real – Alaska’s bases and the jobs that accompany them will be threatened if the President and Senate fail to act.”
“Congress has to make a decision – are we going to balance the budget on the backs of those who serve or are we going to shrink the federal bureaucracy by getting rid of slush funds and eliminating waste, fraud and abuse?”
