Statement from Congressman Young on the 110th Congress
Washington, D.C.,
November 9, 2006
Alaska Congressman Don Young made this statement today concerning the 110th Congress: "I would like to start by thanking the people of the great State of Alaska for expressing your confidence in me for an 18th term as your Representative in the United States House of Representatives. I am honored to serve you in this capacity once again and I pledge my dedication and commitment to this job. "As you are well aware, the House and the Senate will now be led by the Democratic Party and we will have for the first time in the history of the Congress, a female Speaker of the House. I congratulate Nancy Pelosi for this landmark achievement, and I respect her display of hard work and determination in achieving this position. Now that the Republicans are again in the minority, I will have to work even harder to accomplish the legislative goals of Alaska. I previously spent 22 years in the minority and I still managed to pass landmark legislation for Alaska and this country. "There are some very important issues in this coming Congress that must be addressed. High on the list is the war on Iraq. I look forward to working in a bipartisan manner with my colleagues to accomplish the work of the 110th Congress. "Finally, the people of this country have voted for a change in leadership; this is our democracy at its finest. With a heavy heart, I say farewell to many colleagues and friends who will not be returning to the Congress. Your presence will be missed, but I know you will go on to achieve greater accomplishments in making this nation a better place to live. God bless you in your future endeavors." - |
