Congressman Young is Sworn in for His 18th Term in the United States House of Representatives

Congressman for All Alaska Don Young was sworn in today for his 18th term as Alaska’s sole representative. This swearing in ceremony marked the beginning of the 110th Congress of the United States. The oath was administered by the new Democratic and first female Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. Congressman Young begins the 110th Congress as third ranked Republican and seventh ranked member of the House of Representatives. Congressman Young was selected as the ranking member of the House Natural Resources Committee. Additionally, he will retain his membership of both the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the House Committee on Homeland Security. "I was honored to take the oath to be Alaska’s Representative for another term and I thank the people of Alaska for trusting me to serve their needs and interest in Washington, D.C. I would like to attribute a great deal of my success to my lovely wife Lu who has been an integral part of my career and by my side for over 44 years," said Congressman Young after his swearing in ceremony. "As we turn the next page in history, I would like to congratulate newly elected Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi on this historic day. This is an achievement that women and men around the world can be proud of for years to come; this is a testament to the fact that you can achieve anything you set your mind to do. I look forward to working together with my colleagues in a bi-partisan fashion as we address the legislative priorities of our nation in this 110th Congress". |
