GRANTS AWARDED TO ALASKA PROGRAMS

The Alaska Congressional Delegation today announced that federal agencies have awarded a series of funding grants to Alaska groups and communities. The grants total over $2 million.

U.S. Department of Transportation – Federal Transit Administration (FTA)

The FTA has awarded a $74,388 grant to the Fairbanks North Star Boroughs’ Job Access and Reverse Commute program. These funds will provide predictable service for persons needing to commute to work both in the urban areas of North Pole and Fairbanks and also in the suburban areas of North Pole. The area to be served is not currently served by transit.

The FTA has awarded the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities $461,691 in funds for Job Access and Reverse Commute program marketing and promotions, operating assistance, third party contracted services, and project administration costs.

The FTA has also given an $184,103 grant to the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities’ Alaska Mental Health Trust Bus Program. These funds provide for the purchase and rehabilitation of buses for various transit providers in local communities of Alaska.

National Institutes of Health (NIH)

The NIH has awarded Imaginarium, Inc. (Anchorage, AK) a $1,346,509 Science Education Partnership Award Project Grant. This project is designed to inform the public about health issues, foster science literacy, and encourage students to consider careers in health sciences.
