Congressman Young Cosponsors ADA Restoration Act

"We must continue to ensure that all citizens of the United States receive an equal shot at achieving their dreams." -Rep. Young

Washington, D.C. – The American with Disabilities Act (ADA) Restoration Act of 2007, of which Alaskan Congressman Don Young is an original cosponsor, was introduced today in the United State House of Representatives.  Today marks the 17th Anniversary of the original Americans with Disabilities Act, which helped ensure American citizens with disabilities would be able to live independent, self-sufficient lives.

“The original version of this bill which I also cosponsored, passed in 1990 with overwhelming bipartisan support, and finally gave persons with disabilities who wanted to work, an equal chance to do so,” said Congressman Young.  “Since it has been signed into law, it’s been through the judicial ringer, and liberties have been taken with it that were never intended by Congress.  These changes have not allowed for fair and equal treatment to the disabled.  This bipartisan Restoration Act will restore those protections for peoples with disabilities.  We must continue to ensure that all citizens of the United States receive an equal shot at achieving their dreams, and that is what this legislation does.”

As this bill was only introduced today, it does not yet have a bill number.
