Rep. Young Joins Colleagues In Seeking Additional Funding For TBI and PTSD Treatment

Washington, D.C., April 6, 2009

Alaskan Congressman Don Young, member of the Congressional Brain Injury Task Force, has signed on to two letters (which can be found here and here) requesting additional appropriations for programs authorized to treat Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  TBI and PTSD continue to be the signature injury of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the incidence is ever-increasing. 

 

“Funding for these programs is just another way we can and need to help our men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces,” said Rep. Young.  “TBI and PTSD can very easily go undiagnosed leading to dangerous situations.  We have found these injuries to be especially prevalent in rural areas and in members of the Alaska National Guard; this funding would be crucial to assisting them.  If we are prepared to send these brave soldiers into war zones, then we need to be prepared to help them in any way we can when they return to civilian life.”
