A Statement From Rep. Young On The President’s Budget

Washington, D.C., February 26, 2009

Alaskan Congressman Don Young released the following statement this afternoon regarding the release of President Obama’s budget for Fiscal Year 2010:

 

“"We just received the President’s budget today and it is quite extensive and exhaustive,” said Rep. Young.  “It is our responsibility as legislators to make sure we do a comprehensive evaluation of the budget.  I have served eight Presidents and a total of 37 budgets have been presented under my jurisdiction.  According to the Constitution, the President has to submit a budget to Congress, and we have the authority to implement the budget. 

“The one put before us today is the largest budget we’ve ever been presented and it raises taxes on almost all Americans in the midst of a serious economic downfall.  The President proposes to increase our deficit by $3.7 trillion over the next five years!  At a time when many Alaskans are barely able to pay their heating bills, yet alone put food on the table for their families, this proposal contains new fees, new taxes and a $646 billion cap and trade energy tax.”
