Alaskan Congressman Don Young, a member of the Alaska Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, voted today for H.Con.Res. 35 which honors and praises the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) on the occasion of its 100th anniversary. Rep. Young is also an original cosponsor of this legislation.
“I am a proud cosponsor of this bill because I believe very strongly in the ideals of the NAACP,” said Rep. Young. “This year our nation elected its first African-American president, and the Republican National Committee elected its first African-American chairman; this just shows how all of the hard work being done by the NAACP to promote equality and racial justice is paying off. I’m proud of our country for the great strides we have made, but we still have many more to make. I congratulate the NAACP for all of their good work over the years, and for continuing to work toward the day where a person’s contribution to our Nation’s history will be celebrated regardless of their ethnicity.”
