Alaskan Congressman Don Young was sworn into office today beginning his 19th term as the sole Member of Congress representing Alaska in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“I’m excited to be back for another term representing the great state of Alaska,” said Rep. Young, “and looking forward to the next two years. It’s time for a fresh start in Congress and we have our work cut out for us. My priorities have not changed. Congress has still not passed a comprehensive energy bill that puts our country on the path to energy independence; today I am re-introducing the American Energy Independence and Price Reduction Act, which opens ANWR and places the revenues in an Alternative Energy Trust Fund. I will also be introducing a health bill this year which models itself after the workings of the Alaska Native hospitals.
“There is much to be done in the upcoming Congress. My hope is that the extreme left and right in this Congress will finally realize that they have to be willing to work together and meet in the middle for the good of our country. The extreme partisanship that has ruled the House over the last few years needs to stop and I intend to work with my long time friends and colleagues here to ensure that. I am blessed to have been elected to another term and to serve the state I love so dearly and I intend to do all in my power to continue my fight on behalf of the people of Alaska.”
