House Passes Bill to Keep Health Center Doors Open

Rep. Young is Cosponsor

Alaskan Congressman Don Young voted in favor of the Health Centers Renewal Act of 2007 (H.R. 1343) today, a bill he also cosponsored. This bill reauthorizes appropriations for health centers so that they can meet the health care needs of medically underserved populations.

"Migrant, community, public housing, and homeless health centers are vital to thousands of communities across the United States," said Rep. Young. "The Health Centers Renewal Act allows those less fortunate or those who can’t afford healthcare to access doctors, medication and other health services.

"Health centers are a vital part to any community and they should be given the means to meet escalating health care needs and increase the use of preventive health services. To have accessible health centers designed for undeserved populations would help reduce healthcare imbalances, and provide an important safety net in the health care delivery system of the United States.

"The healthcare of Alaskans is very important to me. I have always supported any legislation that will assist Alaskans in getting the healthcare that they need to take care of themselves and their families. A perfect example of this are the many health centers here in Alaska that are currently providing care to seniors who are having a difficult time finding physicians who will accept Medicare. This bill will help make it easier for health centers to continue doing some truly exceptional work! This is an important bill and I’m proud to be a cosponsor of it."
