SAFETEA-LU Technical Corrections Bill Passes

The SAFETEA-LU Technical Corrections bill, H.R. 1195, passed the House this afternoon. This bill will make amendments to the original SAFETEA-LU bill (passed in 2005) for language changes and technical corrections so that affected communities and parties will be eligible for the intended funding originally provided. This bill passed the House twice in the 109th Congress, but failed to pass out of the Senate. The following is a list of impacted projects in Alaska that were inserted in the House version of this bill and included in the final version: Construction of False Pass causeway and road City of Seward roads and sidewalks Ketchikan marine dry-dock facilities Mat-Su bridge and road work at Little Susitna River Mat-Su Borough’s Sheldon West extension Dowling road extension/reconstruction Akutan Airport road Williamsport-Pile Bay Road improvements Hatcher Pass Ski Development road improvements These projects total $49,500,000.
This piece of property was owned by the Alaska Railroad during a period of federal ownership and was leased to the General Services Administration (GSA). This provision was originally introduced by Rep. Young in H.R. 1036.
