SAFETEA-LU Technical Corrections Bill Passes

The SAFETEA-LU Technical Corrections bill, H.R. 1195, passed the House this afternoon. This bill will make amendments to the original SAFETEA-LU bill (passed in 2005) for language changes and technical corrections so that affected communities and parties will be eligible for the intended funding originally provided. This bill passed the House twice in the 109th Congress, but failed to pass out of the Senate.

The following is a list of impacted projects in Alaska that were inserted in the House version of this bill and included in the final version:

Construction of False Pass causeway and road

City of Seward roads and sidewalks

Ketchikan marine dry-dock facilities

Mat-Su bridge and road work at Little Susitna River

Mat-Su Borough’s Sheldon West extension

Dowling road extension/reconstruction

Akutan Airport road

Williamsport-Pile Bay Road improvements

Hatcher Pass Ski Development road improvements

These projects total $49,500,000.

Also included in this bill is a provision that would authorize the Administrator of General Services to convey a parcel of real property to the Alaska Railroad Corporation (H.R. 1036).

This piece of property was owned by the Alaska Railroad during a period of federal ownership and was leased to the General Services Administration (GSA). This provision was originally introduced by Rep. Young in H.R. 1036.
