Rep. Young Says NO To National Energy Tax

Washington, D.C. – Alaskan Congressman Don Young voted NO today on a national energy tax that will raise electricity prices, increase gasoline prices, and ship American jobs overseas.  H.R.2454, Speaker Pelosi’s Cap and Tax legislation will increase costs for every American and will further harm our economy and American workers at a time when they can least afford it.

“Yesterday the Majority gutted $1.2 billion from missile-defense funding as we wait patiently for North Korea to send a missile our way,” said Rep. Young.  “Today they are choosing to impose an energy tax on already strained Americans and send their hard earned dollars overseas.  Something seems wrong with this logic.

“This is a sad day for America, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart.  Next year we will import billions of dollars worth of oil and send our hard-earned dollars overseas because this Majority believes in pardons instead of honest work.  The smart thing to do would be to develop our fossil fuels and use that money to develop alternative forms of energy, but instead, the Majority wants to play the part of global martyr.  China and India can keep pumping all the pollutants they want into the atmosphere, and we’ll fall on our sword and accept responsibility.  That’s absolute nonsense!

“This bill isn’t about the environment; it’s about control and our Speaker is on a mission to save the world, at the cost of one hard-working American at a time.”
