Rep. Young Announces Funding For Alaska

Washington, D.C. – Alaskan Congressman Don Young has secured $1,250,000 for Alaskan projects in this H.R. 3288, the Department of Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, Fiscal Year 2010.  This bill also includes close to $1.4 billion in rural transportation funding.

Rep. Young secured:

·      $750,000 For Anchorage People Mover

·      $500,000 For Airport Apron Expansion In Wasilla

Rural transportation funding:

·      $175 million for the Essential Air Service program

·      $607 million for Rural Transit formula grants

·      $600 million for Rural Highways for projects in communities with populations of less than 5,000

“Out of 152 rural communities in the U.S. that are eligible for Essential Air Service funding, 45 are in Alaska,” said Rep. Young.  “The $53 million bump in funding (from last year) for the Essential Air Service is a huge asset to our state!  The project funding I received was requested by those specific communities and will directly benefit Alaskans.  I am grateful that my Colleagues on both sides of the aisle saw the need for funding for all of these projects, and am proud to be able to assist my Alaskan constituents.”
