Rep. Young Secures Over $113 Million In Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations

Washington, D.C. – Alaskan Congressman Don Young has secured over $113 million for Alaskan constituent projects of interest in H.R. 3293, the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, Fiscal Year 2010.

“Alaska fared very well in this bill, and I’m proud of my part in that,” said Rep. Young.  “I never take the ability to get funding for these projects for granted and I’m appreciative that my Colleagues saw the need in these communities.  These are excellent programs that will help Alaskans in getting care and education, which are vital to the well-being of any community.”   

Alaskan Projects of Interest Requested by Rep. Young:

·      $150,000 for the Alaska Native Heritage Center in Anchorage for educational programming and outreach.

·      $100,000 -- Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center in Anchorage for facilities and equipment.

·      $250,000 -- Chickaloon Native Village to establish a Health Center.

·      $350,000 -- Providence Health and Services in Anchorage for a physician recruitment and retention intitative. 

National Projects of Interest Requested by Rep. Young:

·      $12,158,000 -- Strengthening Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions Programs.

·      $24,803,000 -- Reading Is Fundamental.

·      $33,315,000 -- Alaska Native Educational Equity.

·      $1,942,000 -- Close Up Fellowships Program.

·      $4,965,000 -- Reach Out and Read.

·      $35,000,000 – Center for Civic Education for two programs: We the People and Cooperative Education Exchange.
