House Passes Energy And Water Appropriations; Rep. Young Announces Over $48 Million In Project Funding For Alaska
Washington,
October 1, 2009
Washington, D.C. – Alaskan Congressman Don Young is pleased to announce constituent projects of interest to Alaska totaling over $48,000,000 in H.R. 3183, the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2010. This legislation appropriates money for the Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works Program and the Department of Energy. The bill passed by a vote of 308-114. Rep. Young voted against the Conference Report saying, “I am supportive of the projects included in this bill but this funding only scratches the surface of the needs for Alaska’s ports and harbors. Alaska projects do not score well on the benefit to cost ratio that the Administration uses to economically justify federal investment, and since we have a small population, we can’t compete with projects in the Lower 48. I am working with the Corps of Engineers in Alaska District and Headquarters as well as the State of Alaska to determine the best solution to the problem.” Constituent Projects of Interest Requested By Rep.
