Rep. Young Encouraged By Army Corps Review of ConocoPhillips’ Permit Denial

Washington, May 5, 2010 | comments

Washington, D.C. – Alaskan Congressman Don Young released the following statement today following news that the United States Army Corps of Engineers has accepted the request to review ConcocoPhillips’ appeal after their application for a CD-5 Alpine Satellite Development permit was denied.  Rep. Young made his voice heard in favor of this appeal back in April, when notified that the Army Corps had rejected the request for a permit.

“I am encouraged that Brigadier General Yenter agrees that this decision is worth reviewing,” said Rep. Young.  “To say I was angry when the permit was rejected would be an understatement.  When the application was denied, it was done with the explanation that a buried pipeline, impossible to inspect, would be a safer alternative to roads.  This could not be further from the truth, and am encouraged that it is getting a second, more detailed look.  These types of projects are important to the safe development of our natural resources and should not be bogged down in politics.”
