Rep. Young Introduces Legislation To Limit TRICARE Fee Increases

Alaskan Congressman Don Young has introduced legislation that would tie TRICARE fee increases to Cost of Living Allowances (COLA) for veterans and annual pay raises for active duty personnel. Specifically, H.R. 652 ensures that TRICARE fees cannot be increased by more than half of that year’s COLA.
“America’s servicemen and women shouldn’t have to pay the consequences for Washington’s inability to balance the budget,” said Rep. Young. “This legislation will protect many Alaskans from outrageous increases in TRICARE fees should the Department of Defense not keep its promise to our men and women in uniform. Congress also has an obligation to our men and women serving this nation and this bill is an important step in fulfilling that obligation. As a veteran myself, it is a priority of mine to make sure our veterans and active duty personnel are taken care of and I am proud to introduce this bill.” The Department of Defense anticipates health care costs to continue to rise in the future and this legislation protects America’s servicemen and women, retired and active duty members, from large TRICARE fee increases. ####
