Rep. Young Fights To Fill The Trans Alaska Pipeline

Washington D.C., September 21, 2011

“It is downright shameful what is going on,” said Rep. Young. “America is blessed with vast energy reserves, yet we continue to import nearly two thirds of our energy every year from foreign nations. Opening ANWR will put hundreds of thousands of Americans to work, allow us to stop buying energy from countries that don’t like us, all while reducing the deficit through increased revenue to the Federal government.

“The opposition’s argument is that ANWR is too pretty and we cannot develop it without harming the environment. That is nonsense; we have been drilling in the same area for over 30 years. These people are essentially arguing to continue the status quo of importing the majority of our energy from other countries.

“I am proud of the fact that I have passed ANWR out of the House a number of times, but I will not rest until we pass it out of the Senate and the President signs this into law.”

Congressman Young’s ANWR bill, H.R. 49 currently has 126 bipartisan cosponsors.
