Rep. Young Votes to Support Americans' Second Amendment Rights

Alaskan Congressman Don Young spoke on the House floor today in favor of H.R. 822, the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011. This legislation would allow Americans who have valid state-issued concealed firearm permits or licenses to carry a concealed firearm in any other state that also allows concealed carry. Currently, there is a bureaucratic mess where some states accept another state’s concealed carry permit, while others do not. This common-sense bill simply requires all states that already allow concealed carry permits to recognize any other state’s permits just as a state currently does for driver’s licenses.

“Alaskans’ Second Amendment rights should not end at their state’s border,” said Rep. Young. “This is a good bill for gun owners in America. Those Americans that choose to raise their family in a right-to-carry state like myself, should have the ability to protect themselves if they are traveling in another state.

“H.R. 822 is very simple; it is a reciprocity bill. It simplifies the current bureaucratic mess that is hampering our Second Amendment rights. Contrary to what opponents have claimed, this bill does not establish a Federal gun registry. I strongly support this bill and will work with my colleagues to ensure it is signed into law by the President.”
