Alaskan Congressman Don Young released the following statement in observance of Memorial Day:

"Each Memorial Day, the nation pauses to honor the bravery of our loved ones who have served our nation and paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of this great country.  We honor these brave men and women who, through their courage and spirit, have ensured that our freedoms, ideals and way of life continue to triumph over evil.   

"On Memorial Day, Alaskans are especially thankful, due to our large numbers of veterans and active duty, reserve and guard servicemembers.  As Alaskans, we take great pride in providing and caring for our servicemembers and their families during their deployments.  As Americans, we pray for their safety, celebrate their return, and care for them when they retire. 

"From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank all those who have served and who currently serve our nation’s Armed Forces, both past and present.  You epitomize the American spirit and I continue to pray for your safety.  God bless you, God bless your families, and God bless the United States of America."
