Congressman Young Shares Thoughts on President’s FY 2016 Budget Proposal

“The President Can’t Even Abide By the Spending Caps He Signed Into Law”

Washington, D.C., February 2, 2015 | Matthew Shuckerow | comments

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Alaskan Congressman Don Young today shared his thoughts on the President’s Fiscal Year 2016 budget proposal, which despite $2.1 trillion in new tax increases fails to balance:

“Time after time we’ve seen the same type of top down proposals from the President that hurt economic growth, impose higher taxes and prioritize programs that ignore the Alaskan people.  To make matters worse, after years of inaction on the part of Senate Democrats which led to only one budget in six years, the President can’t even abide by the spending caps he signed into law.

“The FY16 budget proposal is nothing more than a partisan wish list for the President and his Administration, and will see little if any support in the halls of Congress, even from his own party. This year’s budget, which forecasts $5.7 trillion in new debt over the next ten years, is no different from what we’ve seen in the past. With our national debt fast approaching a staggering $20 trillion, this Administration continues to demonstrate its inability to spend intelligently.

"Congress was entrusted with the authority to implement a budget.  We must return to regular order to reign in our nation’s extreme spending problem and make significant steps towards reducing our deficit.  As I’ve said before, our country can neither tax nor cut our way to prosperity.  We must find an appropriate balance in taking on new reforms while abiding by the rules we’ve imposed on ourselves. Now that the President has delivered his budget proposal, I look forward to working with my colleagues in a united Congress to deliver real solutions on behalf of Alaskan and the American people.”
