Anchorage Land Transfer Legislation Passes Committee
Washington, D.C.,
April 18, 2015
Washington, D.C. - Alaskan Congressman Don Young today shared the following statement after passage of H.R. 336 in the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee:
"I'm happy to announce today that legislation I introduced to transfer unused federal land to the Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) has unanimously passed the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee and will be addressed by the full House in the coming months. The bill, H.R. 336, allows for the sale of unused National Archives land, roughly 9 acres, to MOA. The sale of this federally owned property, which is no longer in use, has been requested by MOA and supported by the National Archives. This is an excellent step towards getting this land to the city of Anchorage for future development purposes and out of the federal governments growing footprint of unused properties. The sale will truly be a win-win for Alaskans. Development of the prime midtown real estate will bring additional tax revenue for MOA, while the proceeds of this fair market sale will be deposited in the U.S. treasury for debt reduction."
