Alaska Military and Veterans Affairs to See Funding in 2016

By Marissa Silver

Anchorage, AK - The Alaska Military will see some money coming it's way thanks to the passing of the 2016 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act.

The Legislation would provide funding for several projects here in Alaska including re-building the fitness center at Fort Greely.

Also 37 million dollars will go towards upgrading the hangars at Eielson Air Force Base and bringing in two squadrons of F-35s.

And additionally Eielson will receive funding to replace a boiler at the Base's Central Heat and Power Plant.

Congressman Don Young, says there was also another important aspect of the Legislation.

"The big part of the Bill though is for Veterans, we've put in a lot of telemedicine, that's very important in the State of Alaska, we put in a lot of other monies for Veterans service and the VA, so they can be taken care of as they should be, and I will say Alaska's done better, a better job than the VA then a lot of other states have, we need improvement, we have improvements, but it's very important to understand that this Bill takes care of Veterans and also has a military construction that's necessary to make sure that we retain and keep the F-35s, so that's what we're doing there and I just enjoy what it will do for Alaska and Alaskans and this Appropriations Bill and we only got six more to go, God Bless You all and have a good one," said (R) Representative Don Young of Alaska.
