Congressman Don Young Honored for Support of Alaska National GuardBy Marissa Silver Anchorage, AK - At a ceremony on Thursday night, Congressman Don Young was awarded the Charles Dick Medal of Merit Award. Young was honored with the award by the National Guard Association and the Military Officers Association of America. The award was presented to Young due to his long-lasting support and advocacy for the National Guard. In a statement, former Alaska National Guard Officer's Association President Colonel Edie Grunwald said, "We selected Congressman Young for this award because of his support of the Alaska National Guard within the Legislature, in regards to our relevancy in the Arctic and for taking a stand for the military benefits of our soldiers, airmen and their families." Additionally, Congressman Don Young shared his appreciation for receiving the award by saying, "This award is very nice and unexpected. throughout my career, I've always kept Alaska as my focal point and priority, and that largely encompasses caring and providing for Alaska's Active Military, Guard and Veteran population, under my watch, our state will remain militarily prepared. I thank every one of you here for your service to this great state and nation." |
