Washington, D.C. – Alaska Congressman Don Young today shared the following statement on the confirmation of Ryan Zinke as the 52nd Secretary of the Interior:
“I congratulate Representative Zinke on his confirmation and look forward to his efforts to restore a level of certainty and sanity within the Department of Interior. For too long, this department has been a bureaucratic boondoggle – trampling on states’ rights, eliminating access to public lands, creating confusion across our industries, and overall ignoring the American people. Alaskans have demanded a drastically different approach, one that values the voices of local stakeholders over outside special interests. Today represents a positive step in the right direction.
"I’m confident – under Secretary Zinke’s leadership – we will start the process of repairing the public’s trust in our federal land managers, unleash our nation’s robust energy potential, and continue the important work of uplifting our American Indian and Alaska Native communities. As Congress begins working with Secretary Zinke, I believe we will once and for all correct a number of wrongs that occurred under the previous administration, including the heartless denial of the King Cove road and the inequities facing our Alaska Native Vietnam Veterans. I am proud to call Secretary Zinke a friend and colleague, and welcome the next chapter in his service to our country.”
